The Arkansas Licensed Practical Nurses' Association was chartered by the State of Arkansas in l948. We carry the name Arkansas Licensed Practical Nurses' Association proudly. We are the only organized voice for the Licensed Practical Nurse in the State and have fought many legislative battles to gain and maintain our position as a member of the nursing team.

Organized on October 28, 1982. All former LPN organizations in Georgia dissolved to form one state organization, the GLPNA, Inc. GLPNA, Inc. was chartered and bylaws adopted. Officers were elected and installed by Isabelle Gates Webster, Legal Counsel. GLPNA is the only state chartered association that represents all Licensed Practical and Licensed Vocational Nurses in the state of Georgia.

MLPNA was founded in 1944 and was instrumental in gaining licensure for the practical nurse as well as setting up 8 practical nurse training centers with help from NAPNES & a grant from W. K. Kellogg Foundation when no formal training was available. What began as 62 hours of training has evolved into a year-long program with 30 practical nursing programs being offered at community colleges, universities, and career centers in Michigan today.

In 1953 licensure of practical nurses became law. "Licensed" was added to the name of the association. The Missouri State Association of Licensed Practical Nurses, Inc., is the only full service professional organization in Missouri representing the state's 22,000 licensed practical nurses. The association state headquarter office is located in Jefferson City, Missouri, for centralized management of MoSALPN many activities and representing the LPN at government hearing and inquiries. We affiliate with all major health service groups and associations in the state. The "Broadcaster" is the official quarterly newsletter of the Association.

Journal of Practical Nursing
Your membership in NAPNES entitles you to a year's subscription to the Journal of Practical Nursing. The nationally recognized and respected publication is the oldest nursing publication devoted entirely to licensed practical/vocational nursing. Each issue of the quarterly publication keeps you up-to-date on your profession with articles about association news, LP/VN practice, LP/VN education, research, legislation, and regulations affecting the practical nursing profession. The JPN also contains interesting feature, clinical, and continuing education articles on topics of interest to LP/VNs.

Professional Certifications
NAPNES currently offers two national certification programs -- One in Pharmacology AND another in Long-Term Care. Students may qualify for the pharmacology certification program. The Director of the Program of Practical/Vocational Nursing should contact NAPNES for the details or visit www.napnes.org and download the information.
NAPNES is conducting research and evaluating additional certifications. Potential new certifications are being reivewed for LP/VNs, PN Educators, and Schools of Practical Nursing.
