Put nursing in your future! If you are an individual who is motivated, self-disciplined, responsible and enjoys helping others, consider becoming a nurse through our Program.

Due to the increasing nursing shortage, nursing is one of the fastest growing occupations that will continue to provide stable, long-term employment for the future.

The Simpson Family presents the

Martha Ann Simpson Memorial Scholarship

Gloria Tobin RN, MBA, Chief Nursing Officer for VBMC Harlingen, presents the

Beth Ormond Memorial Scholarship

to graduate, Karen Casas. This scholarship is presented to the Vocational Nursing student graduating with the highest overall academic achievement.

Barbara Disbennett, RN, BSN, Director of the VBMC School of Vocational Nursing, presents the

Friends of Nursing Perfect Attendance Scholarship

to graduates Rosie Bustamante and Karen Casas. This scholarship is awarded to the students who have neither been absent nor tardy for the duration of the one year program.

The School of Vocational Nursing at Valley Baptist is a thorough (demanding) twelve month program with both classroom and clinical components. This Program, which began in 1957, is the longest running School of Vocational Nursing in the Rio Grande Valley. We provide knowledge and learning opportunities that allow an individual to become a safe practitioner who is capable of meeting the basic care needs of an acutely or chronically ill client.

The Program, approved by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners, is divided into 3 distinct levels. During these levels, students gradually learn theoretical concepts that will be used in the clinical practice of nursing and experience patient care opportunities that advance from the simple to the complex.

Graduates receive a diploma and are prepared to take the licensing (NCLEX) examination. The program’s pass rate on this examination exceeds the state average and is often 100%. A Licensed Vocational Nurse assumes roles and responsibilities for client care in a variety of hospital and community based settings, caring for patients of all ages with a variety of conditions, under the direction of a Registered Nurse or physician.
