Nancy Spector, PhD, RN, is the Director of Education at the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) in Chicago. Dr. Spector has 20 years of experience in nursing education, where she was a tenured faculty member and taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels. While in academia, Dr. Spector studied palliative care nursing, receiving internal and external funding. More recently, Dr. Spector has been in nursing regulation, where she provides leadership in nursing education issues for the state boards of nursing. Dr. Spector is the editor of "Leader to Leader," a regulatory publication that is sent to all nurse educators biannually, and she spearheads all national nursing education regulatory initiatives. Currently Dr. Spector is collaborating with practice, education and regulation in nursing, as well as with external regulatory and professional organizations, as NCSBN studies the issue of transitioning new graduates to nursing practice. Dr. Spector publishes and presents, nationally and internationally, on nursing regulation issues in education.

Recently retired from State of New Jersey, Hunterdon Developmental Center as Director of all Professional and Residential Services.
Currently consultant to the Center and serves as Chair of Human Rights and Ethics committees.
Prior to joining the Center, worked as Associate Director, Department of Education, NAPNES. In that capacity was responsible for all aspects of continuing education activities, conducted on-site evaluation of PV/N education programs throughout the US for purposes of programmatic accreditation. Consultant to the Editor of Journal of Practical Nursing and conducted annual State Board of Nursing Surveys.
As Assistant Director of School of Practical Nursing at St. Barnabas Medical Center and member of the faculty developed and implemented the educational program. Also conducted programs for graduate nurses from abroad prior to licensure.
In addition, held the position of National Trainer for Technical Information at OMNE Education, Ortho Pharmaceutical Corporation and presented lectures throughout the US on women’s health issues,
Publications include articles on Continuing Education, Patient Teaching, the Nursing Process, Human Behavior and Mental Wellness and was a Contributing Editor of “Review for Long-Term Care Certification” (Mosby).
Currently chairs the NAPNES Counsel of Practical Nurse Educators and is the consultant to the Board of Directors.
MARY O. EYLES, Ph.D., RN
NAPNES Director of Education
Dr. Eyles is an Education Consultant and serves as Director of Education for the National Association for Practical Nurse Education and Service (NAPNES). She is a former faculty member of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Eyles served as the Director of Education for Kessler Medical Rehabilitation and Research Corporation and Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation for 16 years. She holds a doctorate in the Administration and Supervision of Higher Education from Seton Hall University, a Masters in Health Science Administration, a Bachelors in Health Science Education, and a nursing diploma. Dr. Eyles also holds New Jersey Teacher Certification and is currently working part-time at Hunterdon Central Regional High School. She has held several clinical positions at hospitals in the New York metropolitan area and has been adjunct faculty at Hudson County Community College in NJ and Rockland Community College in NY. She was Director of Continuing Education for NAPNES for many years, serving as the senior member of NAPNES accreditation services to schools of practical nursing. Dr. Eyles has and continues in her role as Editor/Consultant for several review texts for Mosby publishing, now Elsevier Health Sciences, since 1984. Her major research interests are specific to the educational process, particularly in the use of standardized patients (SPs) as a means of evaluating competency levels of health care professionals. Dr. Eyles has worked on several grants, one of which was received from the Paralyzed Veterans Association for the development of an educational video for individuals with spinal cord injuries entitled, Sexuality Reborn, which has since been translated into several languages. Dr. Eyles is a member of the New Jersey State Nurses Association, Kappa Delta Phi, and NAPNES. Dr. Eyles has lectured nationwide on nursing and education related topics and was coordinator/instructor for a foreign study tour to the former Soviet Union in 1983. Dr. Eyles has co-authored several articles and abstracts on the work being done in the PM&R residency program with the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School.
